John F. Murphy Homes Training Department

We are driven to provide optimum care to the people we serve. To this end we have looked at many aspects of employee performance.

Training addresses the Knowledge and Skill area of this chart. It is a pivotal component in the system. Both dependent on the other factors and dependent upon the factors around it. For example if an employee is highly motivated but lacks Knowledge and Skill the job just will not get done. On the other hand, if the employee has received the best training but lacks Motivation, the job still may not be accomplished. If you are equally driven to provide the best care to the people you serve then you should consider implementing systems in your organization that address all of these performance issues. The JFM Training Department is here to help. Our trained professionals can provide your employees with the knowledge and skills necessary for peek performance. Why JFM Training?

Our goal is to provide training to Direct Service Professionals that is relevant and state of the art. JFM Training programs are based on a combination of proven material as well as the latest cutting edge research. The term best practice is not a static idea for us. As new information becomes available, appropriate changes are made to the training curriculum. Workshops are competency based and geared for the success of each participant. This is accomplished by using the latest training design principles available anywhere. The JFM Training Department is committed to providing training that leads to increased knowledge and skills for Direct Service Professionals now and into the future.

JFM Training programs are the best in the industry. Here are some reasons why:

· Our Training department is led by a manager and professional trainer that have certification in, Facilitation, Project Management, Course Designing, and Training Management from the largest train the trainer organization in the world.

· Instructors have depth beyond the subject matter of the workshop allowing them to customize content to the needs of the group.

· Our primary instructors not only have experience in teaching, they have learned proven techniques in presentation and instructional design. They have attended training from the same people that teach the finest instructors in the country.

· Workshops delivered at JFM are Task Based. This means that we teach specific skills that are directly related to the job duties of Direct Service Professionals. There is no wasted time covering irrelevant theory. Workshop material is relevant and usable the minute the employee returns to work.

· Covering relevant material is important, but ensuring that each participant has an understanding is another. That is why each participant must prove competency in order to pass a training session. Competency testing can involve written tests, projects, papers, demonstrations, and oral presentations.

· People First values are ever present in our workshops.

· Direct Service Professionals need the right tools in order to do their jobs effectively. Many of our workshops include materials that can be used as references on the job.

Throughout the year the Training Department sponsors conferences open to the public with top presenters in the field of Developmental Disabilities. DIRECT SERVICE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION

The number of skills that a Direct Care Professional needs to do his or her job is staggering. This can create a balancing act between providing training and scheduling the employee for actual work at your facility. For this reason, we have divided the training into a logical progression, starting with introductory information and continuing on to advanced skills. All of our new employees receive our Direct Service I Certification within one year. Then they may take any workshop at the DSPIIlevel to round out their skill set. This up front commitment to the employee has several benefits. The employee gets training that helps them do the job. The administrator can work with the employee to prioritize what workshops are needed first, second and so on to create a continuum of training that will last for the career of the employee. We feel that this approach is a great way to commit our organization to providing the best services to the people we serve.
